On 30 August 2005, the Walloon government adopted a plan to relaunch Wallonia, officially called "Actions Prioritaires pour l'Avenir wallon", better known to the public at large as "Plan Marshall wallon".
Article 59 of the decree programme of 23 February 2006 states that to implement this plan, the Walloon government may delegate missions by decree or order to the S.R.I.W..
In this scope, the S.R.I.W. has notably been given the task of financing a support activity by SOFINEX of the investments of major Walloon companies abroad.
Two specialised subsidiaries of the S.R.I.W. have been created: SOFIPÔLE, devoted to the points of competitiveness and high tech incubators as well as SOWAFINAL to accelerate the purification and the equipment of activity zones.
The S.R.I.W. also participates in the capital of the two economic stimulation agencies whose decree programme contains the creation of the following:
- The “Agence de stimulation économique (A.S.E.)”, to implement the economic stimulation policy.
- The “Agence de stimulation technologique, (A.S.T.)”, charged with making sure that as many Walloon SMEs as possible have access to research and innovation means.
