In its priority action plan for the Walloon future called ‘Plan Marshall’, the Walloon government has decided to renounce the competitiveness of the Walloon region in sectors for which it also has potential by developing a policy of competitiveness points.
The Walloon government has identified five fields in which competitiveness points could emerge: aeronautics, agro-industry, mechanical engineering, life sciences, and transport and logistics.
The financing of public investments in infrastructures, buildings and equipment for the points destination is done by the “Société Wallonne pour le financement des Infrastructures des Pôles de Compétitivité”, or SOFIPOLE, a corporation founded in October 2005, with a capital of € 500,000,00 by the S.R.I.W. (60%) and the SOWALFIN (40%).
SOFIPOLE is also charged with managing the participations of the RW in the incubators working in the high tech sectors, such as the “Incubateur Numérique Wallon” (‘Walloon Digital Incubator’) and “Biotech Coaching” created recently.
